A E-mail Discussion with my Roomie

Just had a good discussion with a friend of mine (a Liberal, alas) about this. I have has his permission to post it on here.

Your Friend, David Bozza, has recommended the following page on rosie.com Title: Important URL: http://www.rosie.com/blog/2008/09/13/eve-ensler/ Your friend also included this personal message:

Hey Nate. I came across this and just HAD to send it to you.. Don't get mad hehe

Dave

Took me about 45 minutes to write my response, because I had to check my sources:

You bring me Rosy? Please. I can take that lunatic any day.

"I am having Sarah Palin nightmares. I dreamt last night that she was a member of a club where they rode snowmobiles and wore the claws of drowned and starved polar bears around their necks. I have a particular thing for Polar Bears. Maybe it's their snowy whiteness or their bigness or the fact that they live in the arctic or that I have never seen one in person or touched one. Maybe it is the fact that they live so comfortably on ice. Whatever it is, I need the polar bears."

Funny, I have a different view about Polar Bears: The fact that they're not the kind, friendly little things we see on Coke commercials. Maybe it's because I view them as the vicious animals who maim, kill, and eat everything that has meat.

Besides, my nightmare is where they go overpopulated and start killing people. Just search Google images for Polar Bear+attacking and tell me how friendly they look to you now.

"I don't like raging at women. I am a Feminist and have spent my life trying to build community, help empower women and stop violence against them. It is hard to write about Sarah Palin. This is why the Sarah Palin choice was all the more insidious and cynical. Th
e people who made this choice count on the goodness and solidarity of Feminists.??"

HAH! She'll rage with anyone who she doesn't agree with. See her on "The View" for more details.

"But everything Sarah Palin believes in and practices is antithetical to Feminism which for me is part of one story -- connected to saving the earth, ending racism, empowering women, giving young girls options, opening our minds, deepening tolerance, and ending violence and war."

You're right. She's just a racist (never mind her husband is half-Eskimo), hates the Earth (never mind the fact she wants to drill in a area that looks like this:

Yup. With equipment that is environmentally sensitive, no less. Ignoring these facts, yes, she hates the environment.), wants to keep women in the kitchen and keep little girls from doing anything (never mind the fact that she
is the first woman in American history within any party that actually has a shot in reaching the White House in any manner. As the Left has stated, she's "only one heart beat away" from being the first woman President. Besides, it's most of her opponents that suggest that she should actually be in the kitchen and not in the office.) keeping our minds closed (some of the highest scores in test scores and wants to open intelligent discussions about Intelligent Design vs Evolution with both of them on equal ground, which is unheard of in any other place) and keeping us forever in battle (better to attack those who threaten us openly and violently than let them quell and keep their rage until they fly planes into our buildings.

But then again, maybe she wants to do the Clinton philosophy and do nothing but pull out)

"I believe that the McCain/Palin ticket is one of the most dangerous choices of my lifetime, and should this country chose those candidates the fall-out may be so great, the destruction so vast in so many areas that America may never recover. But what is equally disturbing is the impact that duo would have on the rest of the world. Unfortunately, this is not a joke. In my lifetime I have seen the clownish, the inept, the bizarre be elected to the presidency with regularity."

No real facts here. Just opinion. Although, yes, the clowns have come in since '92.

"Sarah Palin does not believe in evolution. I take this as a metaphor. In her world and the world of Fundamentalists nothing changes or g
ets better or evolves. She does not believe in global warming. The melting of the arctic, the storms that are destroying our cities, the pollution and rise of cancers, are all part of God's plan. She is fighting to take the polar bears off the endangered species list. The earth, in Palin's view, is here to be taken and plundered. The wolves and the bears are here to be shot and plundered. The oil is here to be taken and plundered. Iraq is here to be taken and plundered. As she said herself of the Iraqi war, "It was a task from God."??"

Okay, let's just ignore that there are at least 35-40% of scientists in the world, some of which are hardcore atheists, that do not believe in Evolution. Let's not explore any other options beyond that. It's Evolution! And not believing in Evolution has everything to do with running a country.

Because, we might just sprout wings at any moment. We need a leader who understands what to do if that happens.

Let's ignore the fact that GLOBAL WARMING HAS NOT BEEN PROVEN YET AND THAT MORE AND MORE CREDIBLE SOURCES AGREE THAT MORE INFORMATION SHOULD BE EXPLORED BEFORE WE SPEND BILLIONS ON FIXING THAT PROBLEM. Let's ignore why she's trying to put them off (because there's plenty of them up around the world to not be a endangered species?).

Let's ignore the fact that, while the Arctic is showing signs of recovery from it, and the Greenland is showing record reports of low temperatures and that it appears to be freezing over some more. Let's ignore that storms have been happening long before there was anything that could be considered a human mark. And will continue to happen long after we're gone. And that as we grow and experience new things, that there will be new side effects to those things that create cancer.

Let's just ignore all that.

How about we just focus on the fact that we've survived on this planet by using its resources given to us. That we shouldn't overuse it, but we should use it. That's what we're trying to do. It's people like Rosie who want us to stop it by just overusing emotions by whatever she reads on the New York Times and take it literally. It's why she was thrown off The View. She's just a woman who needs to get attacked by one of her cute, cuddly bears.

Also, here is the full quote from her:

"Pray for our military men and women who are striving to do what is right. Also, for this country, that our leaders, our national leaders, are sending them out on a task that is from God. That's what we have to make sure that we're praying for, that there is a plan and that that plan is God's plan."

Palin is clearly praying that we're doing the right thing in Iraq, something sensible for an introspective woman of faith concerned about the lives of our troops to do. She's not saying that she just received a text message from heaven's BlackBerry ordering her to launch missiles. Sorry to disappoint you.

"Sarah Palin does not believe in abortion. She does not believe women who are raped and incested and ripped open against their will should have a right to determine whether they have their rapist's baby or not.??"

And? How is the fact that the father is a jackass the child's fault?. There are programs that allow a child to be given to a family that actually can't have a child. Besides, the statistics on that is low enough where that can't even be used as a viable reason to keep it. Like "to save the mother's life" is. Hardly, if ever, happens.

"She obviously does not believe in sex education or birth control. I imagine her daughter was practicing abstinence and we know how many babies that makes.??"

She actually promotes safe sex in her schools as well as stresses using condoms. She just wants abstinence to be a option, where in schools right now, it isn't. Also, did you know that Alaska has the highest % of condoms given out to students (90% of public schools)

"Sarah Palin does not much believe in thinking. From what I gather she has tried to ban books from the library, has a tendency to dispense with people who think independently. She cannot tolerate an environment of ambiguity and difference. This is a woman who could and might very well be the next president of the United States. She would govern one of the most diverse populations on the earth.??"

Once again, she married a man who's half-Eskimo.

It's like saying that I hate Hispanics.

Also, that fact for the books thing is just a rumor. Just a speculation from a crazy lesbian.

Sarah believes in guns. She has her own custom Austrian hunting rifle. She has been known to kill 40 caribou at a clip. She has shot hundreds of wolves from the air.??

At least we know she'll defend the White House herself, should it ever be attacked.

And she hunts. Never mind that wolves are overpopulated in Alaska. We're allowed to hunt. It's part of that crazy "Bill of Rights" we follow. I fail to see a person who believes in it would be a bad leader.

"Sarah believes in God. That is of course her right, her
private right. But when God and Guns come together in the public sector, when war is declared in God's name, when the rights of women are denied in his name, that is the end of separation of church and state and the undoing of everything America has ever tried to be.??"

*headesks* First off, the only thing the constitution guarantees is that there will be no state religion (which I think is bullshit: It's Darwinism.) Morals and convictions drive who and what we are. Fighting against a nation with the (majority) belief that there is a God, and that God had a son named Jesus, and that we took Jesus' philosophy and used it to forge ourselves a nation is not.

We did not declare War in God's name. Bush said that this is a test of God. We're not fighting a war of religion, we're fighting a war against a fanatical religious group that wants us dead because we believe what we believe. By the way, that same radical religion wants you and Rosie dead, and will probably kill you both if given the opportunity. (Not saying all Muslims are like that. Just the ones who are in league with the ones who bombed a ship, a building, overtook countries without remorse and killed them every single person who disagreed with them or their view of God.)

"I write to my sisters. I write because I believe we hold this election in our hands. This vote is a vote that will determine the future not just of the U.S., but of the planet. It will determine whether we create policies to save the earth or make it forever uninhabitable for humans. It will determine whether we move towards dialogue and diplomacy in the world or whether we escalate violence through invasion, undermining and attack. It will determine whether we go for oil, strip mining, coal burning or invest our money in alternatives that will free us from dependency and destruction. It will determine if money gets spent on education and health care or whether we build more and more methods of killing. It will determine whether America is a free open tolerant society or a closed place of fear, fundamentalism and aggression."

You're right Rosie. Thank you for reminding me why I'm voting Republican. I'm too afraid Obama's going to be inducting that with his presidency.

"If the Polar Bears don't move you to go and do everything in your power to get Obama elected then consider the chant that filled the hall after Palin spoke at the RNC, "Drill Drill Drill." I think of teeth when I think of drills. I think of rape. I think of destruction. I think of domination. I think of military exercises that force mindless repetition, emptying the brain of analysis, doubt, ambiguity or dissent. I think of pain.??"

You're right. Go over to Alaska and go hug some polar bears. They're being raped and need your protection. With your size--of your heart, I know that the Polar Bears will lick their lips--with love!

"Do we want a future of drilling?"

Yes. I would like to pay less for gas, a product which helps us be the productive society we have become until such time we find other means. Not ones that are faaaaaarrrr off in the distance.

Why fix our problems in 7 years, when we can fix our problems in 15-20? A successful Alternative Energy program will come right after those flying cars we were promised 30-40 years ago.

"More holes in the ozone,"

Aren't they repairing on their own? Without any help from the inhabitants?

"in the floor of the sea,"

Are you afraid we're gonna crack open the core of the Earth like a knife thru a apple? Lay off the drugs, Rosie.

"more holes in our thinking, in the trust between nations and peoples, more holes in the fabric of this precious thing we call life?
"

I would like to live in the world where a crazy former talk-show host has less holes in her arguments and stops getting emotional over a furry animal and starts actually looking at facts without nip-picking it. She's almost acting like a Fundamental Enviromentalist.

Try again next time, Dave :D

I really liked Sarah at first.
Then, she just seemed kind of well....dumb.
Sorry.
I will still vote the McCain ticket.
But I am disappointed in his VP choice.

I'm still waiting to shout joys and praise on high when I see her debate.

I still am really happy because she seems good enough to do the job as VP. And she's a actual Conservative, unlike McCain, who does it when the mood strikes.

Although, you have to admit, she already has more qualifications than the Democratic Prez choice :D

The picture of Rosie makes her much too attractive. We'll see how Sarah does on Thursday. At least Sarah didn't claim to be shot at when leaving her helicopter, or say that Franklin Roosevelt went on TV in 1929 to speak to the nation. Don't believe the media. Let Sarah speak for herself. FREE SARAH!!

I now, officially, shout joys and praise on top of the mountains.
